Makeup Monday- Nails of the Day

My nails are desperately short, and really weak, so it can be difficult to play around with nail art sometimes. However, now and again, I'll still give it a go, and I wanted to share with you guys my attempt :) These kind of remind me of something you would find on Jem's nails, no? I'm feeling kind of 80's today! 

These were a beginners attempt, obviously, but if you'd like to try and recreate the look, here's what I did:

I painted my whole nail using Essie Mod Square (the cutest color! I love Essie polishes) and I let them dry. Then, I  cut small rectangles of Scotch tape and applied them diagonally to each of my nails. I actually start by "un-stickying" (oh wow, not even CLOSE to a word) the tape with my fingers, just to weaken the adhesive a bit so it doesn't take my polish off with it. After applying the tape diagonally to the nails, I painted the top half of my nails with LA Girl Flare polish in Dark Purple. I let the polish dry, and then I carefully removed the tape. I set everything with a clear top coat, and there you go! Jem inspired nails of the day. Whaddya think?
