DIY Day- Glitter Shoes

Variations of beautiful glitter shoes have been all over my Pinterest dash lately and I concluded it was time to create my own. As some of you may have gathered from reading this blog, I have a slight addiction to all things glittery. I've been dying to own the most recent Miu Miu's but they are just a teensy bit out of my price range at $850.00. Yeah, never happening. Do those have you drooling like me? Make your own version for a fraction of the cost! Here's what you'll need.

A pair of shoes (I used plain plastic black shoes, but I predict you could use any color and most materials)
Mod Podge
Glitter
Paintbrush
Plastic bowl

First, take your plastic bowl and mix about equal parts of modpodge and whichever color of glitter you're choosing to use. You want a consistency that's pretty thick, so you can coat your shoes with enough glitter in as few steps as possible. Use this picture as a general guide!

Take your paintbrush and lightly coat your shoes with the mod podge glitter mixture. Get every part of the shoe you want to be glittery. You just want a thin coat, and make sure it's fairly even over the entire shoe. It will look a bit messy, but don't worry too much! The mod podge will dry clear, leaving only the glitter behind. Wait at least 30 minutes for your first coat to dry...

And they should look a bit like the above.

Repeat step one, coating the entire shoe again, and wait another 30 minutes while they dry. I watched the premiere of Terra Nova to keep me busy- not sure what I think of it yet. Have any of you seen it? What are your feelings?

Keep repeating the process until you get the results you want. I did 5 coats before the shoes were sparkly enough for my taste, but you may prefer less. Actually, looking back on these, I think they looked kind of cool with a bit of the black underneath showing through. I guess I'll have to make another pair!

Once you are satisfied with the amount of glitter, paint one more coat of ONLY mod podge over your shoes to protect them further. Let that dry, and there you have it! A beautiful new pair of sparkly shoes to rival any silly designer version! ;)

These are really durable, and the glitter is not going ANYWHERE. I love how these turned out and that I can walk around it them and not worry about them falling apart or getting damaged. I'm in love! It's taking all my willpower to keep from doing this to every pair of shoes that I own. ;)

  4. Wow, this is SO awesome! It would have came in handy for me in middle school. I did a report on The Wizard of Oz and couldn't find the type of shoes Dorothy had anywhere...I could have made my own! haha :)
